Dentist visit

So, all 4 of us went to the dentist yesterday. Good reports all around. This was Maelynn's first time and I was a little nervous, but then I realized that she doesn't know that everyone in the world would rather be ANYWHERE except the dentist chair, so if I don't make a big deal then she will think that it is fun. So, mama had to go first to show her how it is not a big deal - which was good for me because I had to be brave for her. (Emma was in another chair down the hall getting her teeth cleaned - she was so brave she went in by herself!!) Maelynn basically had her head stuck in my mouth trying to see everything and the hygenist even let her do "Mr. Thirsty" (the spit sucker). And then it was Maelynn's turn (she has 19 teeth because she has lost the front one already!) She did so good - Scott took a picture with his camera phone of her - I have never seen someone open their mouth so wide in my life. She had been practicing all yesterday morning to see how wide she could keep it and for how long. I was proud of both of them (and myself :)

Emma has to go today for her last round of shots (Hep B). For some reason, when she was born in Ottawa this shot was optional, but it is required here for school, so she has had to have 3 of them and today is the last day. So, pray for her today around 1:45. Scott is taking her today (the first shot was a complete melt-down, 2nd got better, but still screamy - today will be better!!) And then she is so proud that then she "will not need another shot until I'm a teenager and teenagers are TOUGH!" Should I tell her that her daddy wants to cry everytime he thinks of a needle and her mom has to imagine herself on a deserted tropical island as the needle comes closer?!?

Well, I'm off to start my day - have a good one everybody!

Emma said...

She fell down and got a little scrap on her side. We're praying before bed and this is part of her prayer...

"Please, Lord, give me the wisdom tomorrow not to panic when my side starts hurting. And give me the wisdom to not fall down again and hurt myself."

Her new word is "wisdom".

Pregnancy Disclaimer

This is in regard to my previous "Guess Who's Pregnant" blog - I'm not hinting here - I'm not beating around the bush - I was TRYING to be funny, you bunch of crazies :) I laughed my head off when I thought to do this. (Nobody gets my sense of humor - boo hoo). Even my mother-in-law had to ask Scott. For future reference, if this decision is up to Scott and myself - there will be no more Benson babies!!! If the Lord has other plans and surprises us, well then, you can visit me at the funny farm! So, I'm sorry for any confusion that this may have caused. I'm much funnier in my head :)

By the way - Britney Spears will be announcing her next pregnancy WWWWAAAAYYYYY before there are any more babies here, Ashlie!!

Yard Saling

I MADE $300.25 TODAY AT OUR YARD SALE.

I am flying high. And we have a guy coming by Monday night to buy some speakers for $50.00! And I haven't even broken out my kid stuff yet - that was just "house stuff"!!!! We're going to have another one in a couple weeks to get rid of baby stuff, toys, outgrown clothes, high chair, swing...you name it, I'm going to sell it. Maley was playing in an empty box today and my aunt told her to hurry and get out before I accidentally sold her with the box!! My sister made about $100, my dad made $53, my friend made about $200. I have more room in my house, cash in my pocket and people walked away with a "treasure" - win, win!!!

Musings continued...

Usually Emma and Maelynn sit beside of each other at the table when we eat, but with Emma at school, I sit in Emma's seat so I can be beside Maley. The other day she started rubbing my arm and laid her face on my hand and looked up at me and said, "Me woves the way God made you." Started my day off to a pretty good start, I must say!!

My children's musings

1. I'm putting Maelynn to bed, she takes her little fist and knocks on my forehead.
"What are you doing, silly?"

"Nobody home."
(Three and very perceptive :)

2. Maelynn disobeys, is sent to time-out until I can get off the phone. I go into time-out to discuss the infraction. I explain that I'm going to spank her because disobeying is not allowed.
"Will it be hard?"
"Yes."
(With bottom lip trembling and big tears running) "But easy ones are better."
(It took me counting to ten, not from anger, but because I didn't want to start laughing and cave with a big hug and a stern "OK, but don't do it again".) Let's just say, she got spanked, but it was not the hardest one I have ever given :)

3. Emma has an alarm clock in her room to get her up in the mornings. (As stated earlier, mom has a hard time getting up to go get Emma up and we all be on time.) So, in the early AM hours there is alot of news on NPR, so sometimes, while getting ready, she will turn it onto some music and play it quietly. So, here is the conversation:
E: "Mom, I was listening to some music this morning."
ME: "OK"
E: "There is this song that I heard and it said, 'You can't always get what you want.' (stated in a speaking voice, very matter-of-factly - I know you're all singing it in your head now).
I start laughing.
E: "I'm not joking. I heard it. It makes sense. And then they said, 'But sometimes you get what you need'. That is true, ya know."

(And I had nothing more to say.)

4. Discussing the weight of things:
Emma steps onto the scale.
"How much do I weigh?"
"40 pounds."
"How much do you weigh?"
"______." (I answered her, but it does not need to be public knowledge.)
"Oh, I thought you weighed 600 pounds." (Thanks, kid)
"No, that's a lot. Nobody we know weighs that much. Who is the biggest, largest person that you know?"
"Mom, I don't think that I should say."
"You're right, I shouldn't have asked that." (In my defense, I was just trying to prove a point!!!!)

"That may hurt someone's feelings."
"Yes, I know. The point is 600 pounds is alot. We don't know anybody who weighs that much."

And so, I need to get onto the internet to find an animal that weighs 600 pounds so I can share that with Emma so she has a visual image. The people thing was not a good idea - I was just meaning that 600 POUNDS IS ALOT!

Thanks for enduring. I love getting these things down because I think that I will never forget them, but I do. So, I'm sure that there will be more to come. And with Scott being away and Gramie and Aunt Tracy, sometimes I forget to pass on these priceless moments when we talk!

Home Alone

Well, Scott left Monday for a trip out west, so we are making it through the week. He will be home on Friday, so we're 1/2 way there! Been getting up early to take Emma to school, I do not do well in the early AM hours. Boo hoo for me, but anything before 7 is just appalling - and 7 is pushing it! It's almost 8:30 and I still feel like I could fall out of my chair asleep. Emma gets right up ready to tackle the day. Poor Maley doesn't understand why she's having to get up so early either, she's like me in the sleeping department (usually!)

Well, we've been taking this "Managing Your Money" study through our new church on Sunday nights. What a great study!! It's by Dave Ramsey and it is very eye-opening. If you are in your early 20's - START SAVING MONEY! There was a chart that if you invest $1,000 a year from age 19-26 and never put another $ into the account, you will have over a million dollars by age 65! Amazing! It's great what bank interest can do in your favor if you're wise with your money, but it sure does bite you in the behind the other way around. We are really excited to be on the same page and handling finances a little more wisely. I was taught well by my dear mother on budgeting, the "envelope system" and not getting into debt, but Scott and I have not been so great at the long term stuff (we missed the 19-26 millionaire cut-off). So, we have made some adjustments!

OK - so we are planning a yard sale for Saturday. I am NOT a "going to yard sales" person, but when it's me getting the money and getting rid of my junk - WOO HOO! I think I've over priced everything :) You know with the money management seminar, I'm trying to get what I can for that retirement fund!! I'll have to let you know how we do, I may have to have a 50% off sale!!

So, Emma's birthday is coming - she's going to be 6!! I can NOT believe that! She's so excited for her party, she (honestly) has been planning what she wants for the past year - a pj party ! We have all the invitations done and sent and the cake is ordered, so we're getting everything together. OK - since Emma can't read this blog, I'm so excited for what we're going to get her for her birthday, I'll tell you! We're going to get her a kitten!!! She has been begging (without really begging) for a pet. The poor thing has had to catch frogs, lightning bugs, caterpillars...as her pet. So, we decided to break down and get her a kitten for her very own. Hope things go well!! I'm scared of having another living thing around the house. But, we've not actually gotten it yet and her birthday is 2 weeks away - this story may change ;)

Well, I'm going to go, I feel more awake now. I have a friend coming over with her little boy this morning to play with Maelynn while all the big sisters are at school, so I must go. Get some caffeine into this bloodstream, maybe that will help. Until next week :P

My sweet Maley

I asked Maelynn to go and get ready...she picked her own clothes and put them on herself...obviously. She's still learning!

And I even let her stay that way all day - which for me is a small battle. She's so cute that even backward clothes becomes her!!

I'm going to Vegas!

YIIIPPPPEEEEE!! I'm finally getting to go to Vegas! Scott has to be there for a show and I'm going to meet him there October 24th until the 27th! I had to make sure that I would not miss Halloween!!! Good thing I already have all of our costumes :)!! He will be finished with his show by then so this will be just "us" time - in other words, ladies, you know what that equals ;) hahahaha My parents have been so gracious to accept the offer of getting to keep our kids for us :)

We're staying at the Luxor Hotel and we have tickets to Cirque du Soleil and the Pen and Teller show. I'm really excited!!! Scott has been there with work and now I get to go too!!! I hope so much that I will see a celebrity. If I do I will be sure to call Tracy, Ashlie or Lyndsie this time so I will be able to tell someone who will appreciate it!!! YEAAHHHH!

I have to share these

I love good pictures. I got a brain storm one day to take the girls to the old railroad tracks and I've been dying to see if these actually came out OK - and I am pleased with the results. I think we'll go back once the leaves start to change. I hope the grandmothers and auntie enjoys these.

This one of Maley I'm going to get in black & white and the next one of Emma

Update from our sponsors

You will notice on my previous post that something has been removed. I have been requested by my sponsor and financial backing to please remove the public display of our AWESOME Halloween costumes last year, which he feels is embarrasing. My blogging life depends on it :) So, in light of the wonderful man and superb father and husband that he is, I will take off the picture. (I personally think that he was mortified when he logged onto my blog and up popped his picture!) AND, he's still not agreed to be Gomez this year - go figure!!

I am an Ebay fiend

I love Ebay. I get such a rush bidding on something. It takes me forever to see if what I'm bidding on is the best deal on Ebay. Then, I hit the BID NOW button and I'm exhilarated. I bite my nails during the last seconds before the auction ends. I pump my fists in the air when I win. I say Christian slang when I lose like "dang", "poop", "good grief" and I think very evil thoughts about the ebayer who outbid me. But tonight, just now, just 3 minutes ago - I was victorious!!!!!! I won a Morticia Addams outfit for myself for Halloween!!! I'm excited because that completes our "theme" for this year. Last year we were the Mystery Inc. gang (Scott as Fred, Myself as Velma, Emma as Daphne and Maelynn as Scooby-do-be-DOO!) This year we are going as the roaring '60's sitcoms! Maelynn and my nephew, Logan are Fred and Wilma Flintstone. Emma and I are Morticia and Wednesday Addams. I cannot and will not (I'm afraid) get Scott to dress up as Gomez ("Scott, will you please just go as Gomez?" "JUST Gomez? No, not anything!") I'm not sure how I did it last year.

I can't explain how excited I am. I enjoy Halloween so much! I love the fall - I love seeing the kids come around - I love fixing Chicken Stew before we go out and eating it when we get home - I love going around to our extended families houses - I love seeing Emma and Maelynn so excited to get all dressed up - I love being the only mom to dress up and go around with their kids - I love it all!! And not to mention the huge haul of chocolate I get to enjoy for the next year!!

Anyway - I thought that I would share my Ebay joy. I'm already bidding on an "I Love Lucy" dress for next year!!! I'll start working on Scott so he can be Ricky next year hahahahahaha!!! "Lucy, I'm home!"

Are you sure you want to know all of this?

Alright, I'm posting again. I try to think of things to post, but I just can't. I've been sick for the past 2 days (thanks, Maley). I didn't think that you would enjoy hearing about my different stages of mucus, but maybe I was wrong. So, today, I have clearer breathing passages, but still a little sniffly. My head doesn't feel too cloggy but my ears are still plugged. Scott said I must be feeling a little less stuffy - I stopped breathing through my mouth at some point during the night. (I guess I must have been snoring :P

So glad you asked, aren't you?!?

I think that my posts are really boring with no pictures. I'm tired of my camera - it eats batteries like I eat chocolate.

Scott and I got to go on a double date Saturday night. It is so much fun to go out with another couple and just laugh. We told them our "moving to Toronto" story - our "moving to Ottawa" story - me "following the wrong person" story. Oh, that's a good one to tell here - it's like 9 years old, but I get a charge out of it everytime.

OK - I'm just 22 years old, in a foreign land (Canada) where there are natives (Torontonians). My new husband of just 3 months has been transferred to the capital of this foreign land (Ottawa) and we have secured a new place to live. In the first weekend of October we are set to pack up and move. We packed early Saturday morning and had the U-Haul packed and our reliable family car - the burgundy Corsica. I had my cat, Belle, drugged and in an unbelievably small cage sitting in the front seat of the car with me driving. (Being the reasonable person that I am, I have the cage strapped into the seatbelt - just in case.) So, we head off Scott in the U-Haul and me behind him. We are driving on the 401 heading to paradise (we had a HUGE townhouse, compared to our upstairs attic apartment in Toronto and we actually knew people in Ottawa - Kevin & Carol Shaw and Kirk and Joanne Shaw - they were great to us!) So, anyway, Belle and I are following Scott down the Queensway and we’re about ½ way through the trip and I think that our exit is coming up (I’ve only been from Toronto to Ottawa once and Scott was driving, and if you know me, you know I don’t stay awake in the car for very long on trips.) So, I see the exit sign but the Budget truck ahead of me doesn’t put his blinker on to exit. Weird, I think, but Scott knows the way better than me so Belle and I just keep on trucking. Then, I catch my mistake (I'm sure you've already seen it coming?!?!) I have been following a BUDGET truck instead of our U-HAUL truck. And this was way before everyone has cell phones. So, Belle and I have a little discussion – me in tears and she’s like drugged and all. I can’t believe how stupid! The trucks aren’t even the same color!!! But, I trusted my instincts and turned around and took the exit that I thought the BUDGET truck should’ve taken. I was freaking out for the rest of the way, because nothing looked familiar because I must’ve been asleep the last time! Remarkable as it may seem, I got us there safely and Scott, Kevin and Kirk were already unloading the U-HAUL and my new husband didn’t seem even a little bit concerned as to where his new bride might’ve been all that time. Yeah, he noticed I wasn’t behind him anymore, but thought maybe I had to go to the bathroom. 9 years later and we're still together - guess we worked that out! Anyway – I didn’t have to unpack as much.

OK - that was really long. And now I hope that you have had a good laugh. Stay tuned for another exciting episode. (I get really weird on cold medicine)

Sorry, to any blondes out there...

I just love blonde jokes - especially being a very natural brunette :) When I was a teenager I used to hear all the time, "Blondes have more fun", "Blondes are hotter"... and so now I get my revenge by spreading blonde jokes...hehehehehe So, Brunettes - enjoy!

Yesterday I was having some work done at the car dealer. A blonde woman came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten. They all looked at each other, and the Mechanic asked, "What is a seven-hundred-ten?" She replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine. I lost it and need a new one. It had always been there." The mechanic gave the woman a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like. She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her over to another car which had the hood up and asked, "Is there a 710 on this car?" She pointed and said, "Of course, it's right there."
Ohhhh, come on, you know it's funny...
