My children's musings

1. I'm putting Maelynn to bed, she takes her little fist and knocks on my forehead.
"What are you doing, silly?"

"Nobody home."
(Three and very perceptive :)

2. Maelynn disobeys, is sent to time-out until I can get off the phone. I go into time-out to discuss the infraction. I explain that I'm going to spank her because disobeying is not allowed.
"Will it be hard?"
"Yes."
(With bottom lip trembling and big tears running) "But easy ones are better."
(It took me counting to ten, not from anger, but because I didn't want to start laughing and cave with a big hug and a stern "OK, but don't do it again".) Let's just say, she got spanked, but it was not the hardest one I have ever given :)

3. Emma has an alarm clock in her room to get her up in the mornings. (As stated earlier, mom has a hard time getting up to go get Emma up and we all be on time.) So, in the early AM hours there is alot of news on NPR, so sometimes, while getting ready, she will turn it onto some music and play it quietly. So, here is the conversation:
E: "Mom, I was listening to some music this morning."
ME: "OK"
E: "There is this song that I heard and it said, 'You can't always get what you want.' (stated in a speaking voice, very matter-of-factly - I know you're all singing it in your head now).
I start laughing.
E: "I'm not joking. I heard it. It makes sense. And then they said, 'But sometimes you get what you need'. That is true, ya know."

(And I had nothing more to say.)

4. Discussing the weight of things:
Emma steps onto the scale.
"How much do I weigh?"
"40 pounds."
"How much do you weigh?"
"______." (I answered her, but it does not need to be public knowledge.)
"Oh, I thought you weighed 600 pounds." (Thanks, kid)
"No, that's a lot. Nobody we know weighs that much. Who is the biggest, largest person that you know?"
"Mom, I don't think that I should say."
"You're right, I shouldn't have asked that." (In my defense, I was just trying to prove a point!!!!)

"That may hurt someone's feelings."
"Yes, I know. The point is 600 pounds is alot. We don't know anybody who weighs that much."

And so, I need to get onto the internet to find an animal that weighs 600 pounds so I can share that with Emma so she has a visual image. The people thing was not a good idea - I was just meaning that 600 POUNDS IS ALOT!

Thanks for enduring. I love getting these things down because I think that I will never forget them, but I do. So, I'm sure that there will be more to come. And with Scott being away and Gramie and Aunt Tracy, sometimes I forget to pass on these priceless moments when we talk!
