I can't believe this...

There are about 40 "baptist" churches within a 10 mile radius of us (ya know, the Bible belt). The reason I put it in quotes is...well, you can guess. Eveyone is "saved" and they go to church every Sunday morning but do as they please the other 6 1/2 days of the week. We have been in the midst of looking for a church and thought that we had many to choose from, but once we started checking them out, we had to do some serious soul searching and thinking about what is "biblical", "traditional", and just plain "how we grew up". We have learned a lot and had some serious discussions between ourselves and friends. As well as digging out the tried but true Word of Life Bible Institute books. But one thing I passed on the outside board of a church near us immediately had us cross that one off our list. Here's what it said - hold onto your hats: "Try Jesus - if you don't like Him the devil will always take you back". I can hear the collective gasps. Maybe I just read it on a bad day, but I think that that is pretty shocking.

While we were living in Ottawa and Toronto the amount of churches definantly was less than here, but the advantage was when you talked with people, you immediatley knew where they stood regarding church. Sometimes I think it is easier to talk with someone who is a Muslim or agnostic than to try to talk to a good ole Southern person who grew up going to Sunday School with their grandma who sung in the choir who knows all the key phrases to say.

Ok - that's too deep for me on a Monday night at 10:00. I must go spend some time with my hubbie. I hear him chuckle as he passes the door and says, "Still Bloggin?" Until another time...

"Baptist Churches" aren't the culprit, it is the carnel christians that make it up. Get involved in one of "those" churches, and help to change it by living a consecreated life. It can happen even in a southern "Baptist" church...I know, I just joined fellowship with one. The name doesn't make the difference, it's the people inside.
